I recently contributed to the book The Will to Succeed. It is about ten motivational principles for success in business.
Greig Wells, the main author is a renowned marketing expert, and perhaps one of the foremost authorities on using LinkedIn for branding. He has inspired thousands of people to set up in business on their own. It was an honour to contribute my story to his book which I hope will further inspire others.
I am delighted that the book recently achieved an Amazon Best Seller badge and was for some time the number one book in the Kindle categories for Business and Money, and also for Education and Training.
My story, Infinite Passion Infinite Opportunity which charts my portfolio of careers culminating in my discovery of, and love of, the work of Search Engine Optimisation, an endlessly creative skill, is set alongside the stories of several others who have also gone into business on their own. This isn’t always an easy path, and we all learn our lessons along the way. It is not for the faint of heart. But having that ability to set your own agenda truly sets entrepreneurs apart from those who take the more conventional route of settling into the corporate mainstream.
The reality is the Entrepreneurial Personality types are different – very different to “normal people”. We are often misunderstood. These are a collection of stories that show a variety of entrepreneurs who have all managed to forge a way to the top despite their challenges and difficulties. We entrepreneurs do have different traits – there is a common theme of relentlessness, intensity, focus, awareness and drive.
In order to succeed as an entrepreneur one common theme is the need to understand yourself better and this can help you understand your limiting behaviours so that you can stop them. All those stupid mantras that we are somehow unworthy and will never be enough are just plain crazy – and when you get to see them in the cold light of day they just seem so silly and absurd. One of my beliefs is that part of our jobs as entrepreneurs is often to just stop failing, rather than creating success, as we all have our own unique individual talents. We simply need to step out of the way of these limiting behaviours, and let our light shine. We must concentrate on spending our days doing what we do best – which is often what we most like to do – and delegate those other things that we neither like nor are good at.
We need to learn that taking imperfect action is far better than waiting for everything to line up perfectly and taking no action at all. I am as guilty as anyone on this.
The Will to Succeed is filled with true stories of people overcoming their different challenges. It is not just a collection of rather trite aphorisms. It is a collection of success stories through the good and the bad. It is designed to inspire the reader to let go of the fear we all feel in the pit of our stomachs when we enter unknown territory.
As I read all the other contributions I was moved by their stories of reaching within to succeed, of developing resources to develop and maintain the necessary willpower, of conquering fear, of becoming a leader and building a team – and above all of keeping momentum going to stay on track. After all none of us know everything, and without a doubt successful entrepreneurs are constantly learning and seeking to improve themselves. I found the other stories inspiring, and when I read the full text I certainly jotted down several ideas in my journal. It is a very positive book which sets out some personal strategies for mental, financial and personal success.
If you are challenged by the idea of starting a business, or somehow stuck in your business, I trust this book can inspire you to move forward. As I move into my business phase of being an SEO Expert and E-Commerce Consultant, I have found a field in which I can be an individual true to myself, and allow my creativity to shine using skills that I love to use, the book is a timely reminder of some basic principles which can so easily be forgotten.
It is also a thrill to be able to say that I have this badge, and that I am an Amazon Best Selling Author!
